DONN T - KALEIOSCOPIC

Now, Donn T takes the spotlight. "Being out the box musically is commonplace," she remarks. "I really wouldn't know how to do it any other way. Inspiring a wee-bit more authenticity in the world through my music, that's what I wanna do."

M.I.A - BORN FREE!

DIPLO CALLS NEW M.I.A ALBUM "WEIRD,PUNK,MOTOWN"
“It’s a record I did for her that’s sort of…you can’t even [explain] what it would sound like. It’s sort of like an Animal Collective/gospel/giant-drum record,” he said. “And she’s singing on it. I think you might expect some rap/club music, but nothing on there. It’s more of a heavy record. All kinds of different sounds. We did, like, a punk thing… It’s weird.” -DIPLOAs "Born Free" — M.I.A.'s take on Suicide's classic "Ghost Rider" — pounds in the background like an aural assault, the video depicts a SWAT unit tearing apart an apartment complex and beating its tenants in search of an unknown perpetrator, who turns out to be a redheaded young man. Masked, heavily armed military men force him into a truck holding more redheads and drive them to a remote desert holding station, where they proceed to murder the outcasts.
"Born Free" was directed by filmmaker Romain Gavras, who previously helmed the ultraviolent video for Justice's "Stress." Gavras is also the son of Costa-Gavras, the acclaimed director of films including Z and Missing, which were controversial for their scathing and allegorical look into the politics of the late Sixties and early Eighties, respectively. "Any resemblance to real events, to persons living or dead, is not accidental. It is DELIBERATE," read the opening credits of Costa-Gavras' Z, and Gavras' vision in "Born Free" aligns itself heavily with that mantra. By presenting an unflinching account of the U.S.' shakedown of one group, Gavras and M.I.A. draw potent comparisons to many of the U.S. government's questionable decisions in the past decade, from the treatment of terror suspects to our role in the wars in the Middle East and Afghanistan to the recent immigration laws passed in Arizona.
After announcing the premiere of the "Born Free" video earlier today via a tweet, the Sri Lankan MC took over Pitchfork's Twitter, where she has revealed the potential 10-song track list for her upcoming album.

GURU - REST IN PEACE !

After a lengthy battle with cancer, Gang Starr rapper Guru-- born Keith Elam-- passed away yesterday, MTV reports. He was 43. In March, Guru suffered a heart attack that left him in a coma for a brief period.
MTV quotes a letter that Guru allegedly wrote in the hospital. It highlights the rapper's charity work with the Each One Counts Foundation, praises Guru's "loyal best friend, partner, and brother" Solar-- his primary post-Gang Starr producer-- and apparently disavows his ties with Premier.

PHAROAHE MONCH - NEW ALBUM (WAR ) FOR THE SUMMER!

Legend Pharoahe Monch has announced that his forthcoming third solo album, 'W.A.R. (We Are Renegades)' will be released via Duck Down Records.
Pharoahe initially stated that the album would released on his own label, and distributed by SRC, who released his last record, 'Desire.' Instead, the Organized Konfusion MC/producer opted to go with indie Duck Down, claiming that they offered him more creative flexibility.
"I'm incredibly excited about my upcoming release W.A.R. (We Are Renegades) and my new partnership between my company W.A.R. Media, LLC, and Duck Down Music," Pharoahe said. "This album deals with conflicts and resolutions of the spirit, the soul, the government, and the industry among other things."
The record features several first-time collaborations, as well as a gang of familiar names.
"Thus far it features Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid, Jean Grae, Styles P, Phonte, Black Thought, with more to come," Pharoahe revealed. "It also features production from M-Phazes, Marco Polo, Mike Low, Fatin, Lee Stone, Exile and others to be announced. I am working diligently to finish the work for a summer release and I am honored to join forces with the Duck Down family during their 15 year anniversary."

BRENK X & FID MELLA -HI HAT CLUB VOL 4 CHOP SHOP
About Brenk: Austria isn't exactly the epicenter of the beatmaking world but things are changing fast with producers like Dorian Concept, DJ Buzz and The Clonius. And Branko Jordanovic aka Brenk. The Wien-Kaisermühlen homeboy is a mystical figure. A Westcoast rap fanatic and hardcore producer, Brenk is one of the most complete European beatmakers. Although you can't pinpoint his sound you know immediately that it is him when you are hearing a Brenk production. Westcoast Gangsta-rap and grimey Detroit rap are as present in his music as sweet soul music from the 60ties + 70ties – all chopped to the max and iced out with analogue Korg lines. After releasing the slept on instro-masterpiece "Gumbo" on Supercity in 2008, Brenk has worked with Westcoast pioneer King Tee and has laced beats for an armada of Austrian MCs (Kamp, MAdoppelT, Skero, Kayo). Right now he is producing one half of the forthcoming new MC Eiht album on Year Round Records (Premo is doing the other half) and is working on S3 (Supa Soul S**t), a group he has formed with MPM singer Miles Bonny.
About Fid Mella: Fid Mella was born in Meran (Italy) where he has produced albums with Ghemon, Mistaman and Kiave. Seven years ago, Mella moved to Vienna where he hooked up with Brenk. Since than he has worked with Kev Brown, EdO G, Deph Joe, Gerard MC, Manuva and many more.

AFRICAHITECH - BLEN NEW SINGLE

Africa Hitech is more than a name; it is an ideology - one that embodies its member's passions for an eclectic diaspora of electronic styles, from dub and acid to UK garage, grime, techno, house and Jamaican dancehall.
Mark Pritchard and Steve Spacek stand at the intersection of all these styles (and more) and the result is a bass-fuelled manifesto: the opening salvo being 'Blen'.
Created at Red Bull music Academy in 2007, Africa Hitech forms part of Mark Pritchard’s collective of projects – MPP Productions. MPP is a banner under which all the wide-ranging productions from this prolific producer can co-exist and released through Warp it includes Africa Hitech, Harmonic 313, new Reload material, and others.
Essentially twisting the sonic palette of Detroit techno to fit their vision of post-apocalyptic riddims, 'Blen' is all oxygen-sucking bass kicks and razor snares until Spacek comes in over a chorus of insect synths. This is not the smooth Steve Spacek you may know from his eponymous band, this is Steve Spacek as a rudeboy from the future. Decrying haters trying to “take di piss”, his unique patois creates it’s own intriguing atmosphere.
As a counterpoint to the paranoid bounce of the title track, the 'Blen Remix' stretches things out for the party. Flipping the vocals over percolating Garage beats and drenching it in swelling synths, it might as well be a master class for those trying to regain the sound of London circa 2000.
B-side “The Sound Of Tomorrow” is an inkling of the range that Africa Hitech will cover in the coming months. A deep cut of synth soul full of ricocheting drum machines and vocoder choruses, its title is a fully accurate summary of the Africa Hitech aesthetic.
An opening shot, listen out for more Africa Hitech productions in 2010.

ANDREYA TRIANA - LOST WHERE I BELONG (FLYING LOTUS REMIX)

Welcome, please, Andreya Triana. The singer whose past credits include work with Mr Scruff, Flying Lotus, Theo Parrish and Bonobo releases the first single from her forthcoming debut album, Lost Where I Belong. "Lost Where I Belong", like the rest of the album which will follow, is produced by Simon Green aka Bonobo, this track being co-written with Fink. The album came about before Bonobo and Triana worked on a track for his lastest album and ended up touring the US together. A beautiful, subtle slice of jazz and folk-inflected soul, Lost Where I Belong is, Andreya explains, a microcosm of what her album is all about. "The underlying theme of the song is even though we can strongly and clearly know what our purpose is in life we can still get a bit lost along the way and struggle sometimes". Bonobo builds subtle live strings, brass and effortless-but-understated drum work around the gorgeousness of Triana's voice and lush harmonies. The remix comes from sometime associate and collaborator Flying Lotus who takes the original vocal out into the (LA) galaxy - all space fizzes and filtered drums - before Andreya roots it right back down again with an acoustic version which shows just how affecting her voice is, with Fink and Bonobo both lending a hand on guitar and double bass. No diva-histrionics here - just an attempt to let the melody and lyrics do the talking.

BETA HECTOR FEAT DIONNE CHARLES -PAYBACK

Beta Hector is the solo project of Simon Hill, founding member of British funk band Baby Charles. A multi-talented musician and producer, Hill plays most of the instruments himself, including the electric bass, upright bass, guitar and keyboards; he then runs these recordings through an electronic process for the raw funk sound that you’ll hear on the finished productions.
His debut release for TT, a 7” single released April 2010, features the vocals of enthralling Baby Charles songstress Dionne Charles. Having been compared to Sharon Jones of The Dap Kings, Dionne is known for her unique and boisterous vocals that smoothly ride over a funky, hard hitting drum groove. As for the groove, it’s all live instrumentation, but with an experimental thread of electro, synths, and psychedelic delays that weave through the solid funk rhythm.
Both tracks on the 7” feature on the Tru Thoughts Funk compilation, released May 2010, a classic super-heavyweight collection of all the best funk songs to have graced TT over the years, including tracks by Quantic, Alice Russell, Nostalgia 77, The Bamboos, Lizzy Parks and many more.

YOUNG JAZZ REBELS -SLAVE RIOT

Young Jazz Rebels is a Madlib jazz group from the Yesterdays Universe collective. The album Slave Riot, their debut, is an avant-garde free jazz record, a style Madlib has been developing with Young Jazz Rebels since their debut on 2006's Chrome Children compilation with the track “Nino's Deed.”
An alternate take of “Nino's Deed” is included on Slave Riot, with 17 others – sounds ranging from heavy rhythm (“The Legends of Mankind”) to electro-jazz fusion (“Forces Unseen”, “Black Freedom”) to the sparse and experimental heard in the 2-part album centerpiece, “Slaved Riot”.
Inspired primarily by independent and experimental jazz vinyl from the late 60s, 70s and 80s, Slave Riot begins and ends with audible vinyl static, and it's packaged uniform with Madlib's other new jazz release, Miles Away: CD with heavy-boarded mini-gatefold LP-style package with a “tip-on” gatefold photo and inner sleeve. The double LP is printed with a duo-tone black panther on front & back.
Young Jazz Rebels: Melvin Hampson, Juggy Lewis, Lena Hamilton, Mary Jane, Tyrone Crumb, Lamont Parker, Monk Hughes, Brother Dave L. Produced & Arranged by Madlib.

JOSE JAMES & JEF NEVE - FOR ALL WE KNOW!

“This record is all about capturing the moment,” José James says of For All We Know, his upcoming Impulse! release. The album, a collaboration between James and noted Belgian pianist Jef Neve, finds the charismatic young vocalist applying his warm, rich baritone to a sterling assortment of timeless jazz and pop standards. The result is an eloquently spare, effortlessly expressive set, with James’ vivid performances and the intimate duo format lending new emotional depth to such beloved classics as “Tenderly,” “Body and Soul,” “Everyday I Have the Blues,” Billy Strayhorn’s “Lush Life” and George and Ira Gershwin’s “Embraceable You.” (VerveMusicGroup)
