De retour pour une deuxième année consécutive, le festival Havana Cultura d’Havana Club s’apprête à plonger Montréal dans un nouveau bain de culture cubaine. Créé il y a trois ans, le festival se déroule dans sept autres villes à travers le monde et célèbre l’expression cubaine et son insatiable joie de vivre. Ce festival est présenté par Havana Club®, l’authentique rhum cubain.

Gilles Peterson est animateur radio, Dj globe-trotter et créateur de tendances en grande partie grâce à sa populaire émission radio sur la BBC Radio1. La version internationale est retransmise à travers les radios du monde entier tel que le FM4 en Autriche, la Radio Nova en France, le B92 en Serbie et la Radio Helsinki en Finlande. De plus, son émission WW15 est à l’antenne aux heures de grandes écoutes sur la radio japonaise J-Wave. Son talent de Dj amène Gilles Peterson à faire le tour du monde et à suivre les nouvelles tendances des pistes de danse des différentes cultures.

Telmary est une rappeuse canadienne d’origine cubaine. Sans perdre son image de rappeuse, elle interprète aussi de la rumba, du reggae, du trip hop et du jazz. Ses concerts sont caractérisés par la fusion et le mélange entre l’acoustique, le naturel et l’électronique. L’authentique Telmary représente le meilleur dans le domaine de la création populaire contemporaine, et livre un style unique de « mucho-flow cubano », un mélange de hip-hop cubain, de trip hop et de poésie jazz.

Ghislain Poirier est un DJ et musicien de Montréal aux influences diverses: dub, hip-hop, ragga, soca, grime, dancehall, etc… Il compose autant des pièces instrumentales originales que des pièces pour des rappeurs montréalais tels que Séba, Omnikrom et Face-T du duo Kulcha Connection. Il a également collaboré avec les rappeurs Beans, TTC, Lotek HiFi et le chanteur Nik Myo. Il est reconnu pour ses remixes d’artistes rock et hip-hop tels que Les Georges Leningrad, Clipse, Editors, Bonde Do Role, Kid Sister, Champion, Pierre Lapointe et Lady Sovereign. Poirier est aussi le fondateur des soirées très populaires “Bounce le gros”.

Le Plateau, sera transformé en une oasis havanaise avec une série d’événements festifs aux notes cubaines. Gilles Peterson, musicien de renom, entouré de plusieurs musiciens cubains talentueux, s’illustrera durant cet événement culturel populaire, lequel aura lieu à Montréal (du 12 au 14 août)

“Havana Club’s Havana Cultura” originated in Toronto three years ago and it’s now taking place in seven markets around the world. It is poised to become one of Canada’s, and the world’s, GREAT cultural events. From Cuban music and dance, to Cuban food and drinks like the Havana Club Mojito, “Havana Club’s Havana Cultura” is an authentic celebration of all things Havana.

Gilles Peterson, along with Telmary Diaz, will be performing in Montreal on August 12th at La Tulipe (4530 rue Papineau). Doors will open at 10pm with performance by Dj Scott C, Dj Poirier et Boogat as opening acts.

Widely acclaimed as a musical tastemaker, Gilles Peterson spreads his influence on music listeners around the world mostly through his Worldwide radio show on BBC Radio 1 which is also broadcast live on the Radio 1 website and available for audio streaming online for seven days from broadcast. He also does another international version of the show which gets syndicated to radio stations all over the world, such as FM4 in Austria, Radio Nova in France, B92 in Serbia and Radio Helsinki in Finland. What’s more, he broadcasts his WW15 show at drivetime on Japan’s largest commercial radio station J-Wave. Parallel to this, his frequent DJing gigs around the world also have cemented a worldwide following.

Telmary is into Hip hop, trip hop, jazz poet, flow -”mucho flow cubano”. She was born in Havana, Cuba and now live in Canada. She is the most authentic rapper of the island. Her studies of English, theater, photografy and screenplay writing have shaped her as an artist and helped her ultimate goal, to comunicate.

Drawing from a wide range of tropical riddims and urban electro, the power of Montreal-based DJ/producer Poirier’s, bass blasts through any flimsy attempt to classify his music. Pinpointing the bits and pieces of dancehall beats, soca energy and electronic intensity is futile in the face of Poirier’s dance-driven creativity and air horn-worthy excitement. Signed to Ninja Tune, this is a man who just understands what works in the dance.

Montreal’s Plateau will be transformed into a Havana haven with a series of lively Cuban-themed events. Renowned musician Gilles Peterson, alongside many talented Cuban artists, will perform at the popular cultural event, taking place in both Montreal (Aug. 12-14)
